Business Development Manager
Job Description:
Hello!
If you are a Business Development Representative that enjoys engaging with founders and operators at an early stage, where ideas are still forming and the right questions matter more than quick answers, this role could be a strong fit.
At Altar.io, you will be part of the first conversations companies have when they are thinking about building or evolving a digital product. These are not transactional sales interactions. They are discussions that shape direction, challenge assumptions, and determine whether something is worth building at all.
You will work directly with experienced founders, product leaders, and delivery teams, helping ensure those conversations start with clarity and intent.
This is not a volume-driven BDR role. It is a role for someone who values context, enjoys thinking through problems, and wants to play a meaningful part in how opportunities are shaped from the very beginning.
What you will do:
This is a research-led, account-based role focused on thoughtful outreach and early-stage qualification.
You will:
Identify and research companies and decision-makers aligned with our Ideal Customer Profile
Reach out through LinkedIn, email, and referrals with tailored, relevant messaging
Start conversations and build an understanding of the business problem, what triggered the initiative, how developed the thinking is, and any constraints shaping decisions
Qualify opportunities based on strategic fit, not just interest
Decide whether to progress, nurture, or step away from opportunities
Lead initial calls where appropriate
Prepare clear internal context for senior leadership, including opportunity overview, key unknowns, potential risks, and recommended next steps
You will work closely with founders and senior product and delivery leaders. Your role is to improve the quality and focus of early conversations.
What success looks like:
Success is not measured by activity volume.
In the first 6 to 9 months, success will look like:
Opening relevant, well-researched conversations
Building a pipeline with strong alignment and clear context
Enabling senior team members to join conversations already informed
Reducing the need for repeated discovery due to missing information
Over time, this should lead to better-quality opportunities and more effective use of senior leadership time.
What we are looking for:
This role requires someone who can think beyond surface-level qualification.
You are likely a good fit if you:
Focus on understanding problems, not just responding to requests
Are curious about how businesses and products work
Communicate clearly, especially in writing
Ask thoughtful questions and are comfortable challenging assumptions
Can operate effectively with incomplete information
Experience in consultative B2B environments such as product studios, consultancies, agencies, or technology companies is useful, but mindset matters more than background.
What you bring:
Experience in a business development, sales, or client-facing role
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to research and structure information clearly
Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders
Sound judgment in how opportunities are assessed and progressed
Working at Altar.io:
Remote-first, with access to our Lisbon office
Flexible working hours
25 days of holiday plus additional days across the year
Health insurance where applicable
Competitive salary with performance-based commission
Learning and development budget
A senior, product-focused team
